Discussion Questions

Guys, it was great to open up the floor to questions and discussion at Skylight Lounge. Thanks for being honest, open and contributing; we really did all learn from each other. One thing that really helps when addressing these issues is getting away from 'Christianese' and thinking, honestly, how would you want this to be answered so it means something to you? Personal experiences very welcome, if you're happy to share...

I've grouped the different questions into 'Stuff in the Bible' 'How do I/we live as a Christian(s)?' as individual posts.

If you'd like to carry on the discussion from Skylight Lounge on Sunday, respond here:

Q: Why does God sometimes feel absent in the hard times? How do we deal with 'unanswered' prayer? How do you keep trusting in the 'silence'? What about spiritual attack; how can you tell if it's attack and how do you deal with it?

Stuff in the Bible: Questions...

Q: Who is Jesus - REALLY? To me, to him, before he died, after he died, today...?
Q: Why do some people become Christians and not others, if God loves us all equally?
Q: Acts 2:17-20 (look up: www.biblegatway.com) We always talk about verses 17-18 and say they are for today, but what about 19-20?
Q: In Romans, Paul talks about Jesus dying and then says a person might die for a 'good man' but a person wouldn't die for a 'righteous man'. If you're a 'righteous man' surely you have to be 'good' as well? Can you be righteous without being good?
Q: Between Jesus dying and being resurrected, what did his spirit do/go?

How do we live as Christians? Questions...

Q: How often and when should I read my Bible? And in what way?
Q: How, when and why should I/we fast?
Q: In the scriptures, Jesus tells us to give to those who ask of you. To what extent are we doing this today?
Q: If you are not married do you think God has somebody special out there for you?
Q: To what extent does the church relect God's values rather than the world's? Does the church enable us to model Jesus' lifestyle? If not, how do we move to a place where it does?

Breathe

Can God become a more natural part of your life? Can your relationship with him be as simple as breathing?

Is there anything you need to breathe in?

Is there anyting you need to breathe out?

Thoughts/reactions/feedback from Sunday's Skylight Lounge welcome here...

Sharing

I read the following blog quite regularly and am often challenged and excited by the ideas i encounter there:

Poser or Prophet?

Below are some links to a few posts that came to mind on Sunday after watching Rich. I found them very challenging:

Sharing as Non-Sensical Charity

Sharing and Debt

Sharing (a final appeal)

Any thoughts?

White Balls

At the end of this week's Skylight Lounge everyone left with a white ping pong ball with 'nothing' written on it; a visual aid to signify not only the 'junk' we carry around in our lives but also the fact that there's nothing we can do to make God love us any less. Nothing.

How did this week's subject reverberate with you? What have you come away with and what are the thoughts you're taking with you throughout this week?

Discuss away...

Welcome to Skylight Lounge Blogspot

Well, what d'ya think?! It's just an idea but this blogging-melarkey could be a great way to keep in touch, keep the conversations going post-Sunday and also be a useful tool to those new to Skylight Lounge to see what we've been up to so far...

This Sunday we watched 'Bullhorn' Nooma (009) and discussed friendship, Jesus' relevance in the 21st Century and our responses to watching the DVD. What did you think? Have you come away with any lasting thoughts and/or has it led to more conversations, thoughts or questions?

Use this space to reply to posts or create your own and keep in touch with the Skylight Lounge community all through the week. Add it to your favourites and check in every now and again...

You'll need a Google Account to add/create posts but this is very easy to set-up and takes 2mins.

Enjoy and let us know what you think...
